Robert Lynwood Elliott

Robert L. Elliott was born October 20,1946, in Kingston, NY. to Robert T. Elliott and Ruth (Boyd) Elliott passed away on March 16" after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease with his family by his side. Robert lived all but the last few years of his life in Ulster Park N.Y. before moving to Colorado to be with his family. Robert graduated from Kingston High School in 1964 and enlisted in the Army after graduation. While in the army he completed jump school and was very proud of the fact that he qualified as an expert marksman. During Vietnam Robert was stationed in Korea on the DMZ. After being honorably discharged he returned home to Ulster Park where he began a career at Central Hudson which lasted 42 years. Shortly after starting at Central Hudson he was married briefly and referred to that as his practice marriage. Practice making perfect he met Mary Huber in 1973, and they were married in 1974 remaining happily married for 35 years until her passing in 09. They had a son Eric in 1975.

Throughout the years Robert wore many hats. He sat on the recreation committee for the town of Esopus, was a shop steward for the IBEW local 320 and was a friend you could always call if you needed a hand. Most importantly he was a husband, father, grandfather and if you were paying attention, a teacher. He taught me h o w to be a hard worker, a good friend, an adequate husband and a great dad. He didn't use words in his lessons but taught by setting the standard and upholding that standard every day. He was genuinely a kind man, who was quick to make a friend and had dark sense of humor. This disease took a lot from him over the years but left him with the kindness he always had and his sense of humor which was hit with Aidan and his friends on their many trips into the San Juan mountains exploring the jeep roads.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Ruth and his wife Mary. He is survived by his son Eric, daughter in law Carol and his 3 grandchildren Aidan, Allie and Avery all of Durango CO.

I would like to thank the staff at Vista Mesa for taking such good care of Dad for the past few years as well as Hospice of Montezuma County who treated him with kindness, compassion and dignity for the past few months. In lieu of flowers I ask that you reach out to that old friend or family you've been meaning to call and tip you wait staff a little something extra especially the ones at Dietz Stadium Dinerwho he always spoke of so fondly.
