Robert James ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson Funeral Home on Mar. 17, 2026.Robert Lincoln James age 89 passed away peacefully at Tri Point Medical Center on March 16, 2026 just five days shy of his 90th birthday. He was born March 21, 1936 in Dunbar, PA.I know most obituaries talk about where someone was born, where they worked, who they lost, etc. But here is what I would like you to know about our dad. Most important, he loved our mother dearly, happily married to her for almost 71 years. There was absolutely nothing he would not do for that little lady. He worried about her up until his very last breath. His favorite thing to do was life with her. Watching them together taught us what real love looks like. Each night he would hold her blanket in front of the fireplace to warm it, tucking it lovingly around her. They spent the evenings sitting side by side watching every Guardians game or old westerns together before going off to bed. Dad was the hardest worker, working multiple jobs so he could build their dream home himself. He did so with his own hands from blueprints to finish. If you knew of our dad, you either had your house painted by him or knew someone who did. If you were friends with our dad, you heard in detail about one or all of their many camping trips together. If he like you, you are now the owner of one of the hundreds of rings he made from a dollar bill he folded in front of you. After, he would place it on your finger. He loved doing this! One thing I know for sure - our lives will be very different without him, but all of our lives are better because he was in it. He really was the mighty oak of our family. He leaves behind his loving wife Wanita, son Rick (Chris) James, daughter Michele (Bob) Valentine, 4 grandsons Ryan and Ryder James, Lucas and Cody Bertone. He also leaves Brother Bill (Theresa) James and many nieces, nephews, dear neighbors and friends.Rest easy dad, we love you so much and know you are with Gus (his little dog) again. You said the day before you passed that you missed him. You also told us you would change nothing about you life and family.A private service will be held per his request. Burial will be at Perry Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Lake County Dog Shelter, 2600 N. Ridge Rd., Painesville, Ohio 44077.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
