Robert Lee Ramsay

March 15, 1928 March 9, 2026

Urbanna, VA

Robert “Friendly Bob” Ramsay passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026. Born on March 15, 1928, in Baltimore, Maryland, Bob was a lifelong artist who graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art and enjoyed a long career as an art director and commercial artist. He found great joy in photography and painting, sharing his work generously with others. His warm curiosity, love of travel, and genuine interest in people created countless conversations and brought light to everyone around him.

Bob and his first wife, Ruth, discovered a shared passion for sailing that led them from Richmond to Urbanna, where they retired by the water and became active members of the Yankee Point Yacht Club. After Ruth’s passing following 56 years of marriage, Bob was blessed to find love again with Audrey McClure. For the past 14 years they cared for one another, surrounded by friends in the Urbanna community.

A devoted servant throughout his life, Bob was a scout and camp counselor in his youth, served in the Army in Korea, and remained active in his community for decades. He volunteered as a driver for the Urbanna Rescue Squad, delivered meals for Meals on Wheels, participated in the Kiwanis Club where he loved reading to schoolchildren, and spent many summers with the youth at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church through the “Nail and Sail” program. He continued making new friends until the very end.

Bob’s deepest loves were his Lord Jesus, his family, and the wide circle of friends he cherished throughout his life. He is survived by his loving wife Audrey; children Ann (Mike) Campbell and their children Christie Wright (Jeremy) and Chase Campbell (Amanda); Joan Ramsay-Johnson (Carl); Robert Ramsay Jr. and his children Matt and Nick Ramsay with Sophie Howard; nephews Ted Ramsay and David Ramsay; great-grandchildren Michelle, Olivia, Cade, Nicolas, and Ramsay; and stepchildren Steve, Gail, and Susan (Scott). He was preceded in death by his first wife Ruth and stepson Stuart.
