Born on February 1, 1945, in West Point, Georgia, Robert lived a life marked by service, loyalty, and a steadfast commitment to family and country.
Robert's early years were shaped by his deep love of his country, a passion that led him to serve with honor in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. For four years, he was a crew chief aboard the C130, where he took pride in supporting his fellow servicemen through his vital role. His time in the military remained a defining period of his life, reflecting his patriotism and sense of duty.
Following his military service, Robert embarked on a long and successful career as a service technician, culminating in 28 years of dedicated work with IBM before his retirement. His professional life was characterized by reliability and expertise, qualities that earned him respect among his colleagues and peers.
Family and cherished memories were the cornerstones of Robert’s life. He and his wife Diane shared countless moments of joy, particularly their vacations to the Smokey Mountains—destinations that hold treasured memories for the entire family. Those trips were filled with laughter, exploration, and the natural beauty that Robert so deeply appreciated. Known for his dry sense of humor and blunt honesty, Robert's personality left an indelible impression on all who knew him.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Crowder; his son, Robert L. "Sunny" Crowder III, and daughter-in-law Christi Crowder; his daughters, Renee Godwin and Rachael Kirkland; his granddaughters, Jennifer Crowder and Erica Kirkland; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who carry forward his legacy. He also leaves behind his brother, Charles Crowder, and sister-in-law, Grace Crowder. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine and Robert L. Crowder, and his brother, John David Crowder.
Those fortunate enough to have known Robert remember him as a man of integrity, unwavering loyalty, and heartfelt dedication. His contributions to his family, his country, and his profession stand as lasting testaments to a life well-lived. Robert’s legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his memory will be cherished in the hearts of all his loved ones.
