Robert Preston ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Beck Funeral Home - Rogers City on Mar. 3, 2026.Robert Kenyon Preston, 85, of Grosse Pointe Woods and Cheboygan passed away peacefully at his cottage on Mullet Lake on Monday, March 2, 2026 surrounded by his family.Bob, born in Newport, Rhode Island, spent his childhood years in Swansea, Massachusetts before moving to Michigan with his family as a teenager. He graduated from Grosse Pointe High School and attended Ferris State University. He was employed for over 40 years in production and sales in the tool and die industry. Bob split his time between Cheboygan and Grosse Pointe Woods, with his heart alwaysanchored at Mullet Lake. It was there that he made many of his favorite memories on the water, at sunset, and surrounded by the people he loved most.Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Muriel (Manchester) and Roger Preston. He is survived by his devoted wife, Judi (Peet); his sister, Louise Nichols; and his children, Greg Preston; Melissa McKenzie (Sarah); Sarah Mutch (Rob); and Daniel Preston (Stephanie). He was a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy.Bob loved his family deeply and treasured time spent together, especially during cocktail hour, where he would chat, listen, and watch the sun dip below the lake. He found happiness in life's simple pleasures: his dogs at his side, a boat on the water, or laughter shared with friends. An avid outdoorsman and hands-on problem solver, Bob enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, golf and water skiing. He was always working on a fascinating project, most notably rebuilding and restoring the family cottage, a labor of love that will stand as part of his lasting legacy. Bob will be remembered for his steady presence, his stories, his curiosity, and the way he made time for conversation and connection. His love for family, friends, and lake life will continue to ripple through the generations he leaves behind. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation to the Humane Society of your choice in Robert's name.A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.Online condolences may be addressed through www.beckfuneralhome.orgTo plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
