Virginia, IL

Robert Keith “Bob” Fair, of Virginia, passed away at his home on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Born on July 12, 1951, in Beardstown, he was the son of Chester and Grace Deming Fair. On August 31, 1968, he married Delores “Dee” Brunk in Palmyra, Missouri. She survives him, along with their daughter, Lisa Winnett (companion Jon German) of Virginia; grandson Jacob Winnett of Virginia; great-grandson Maddox Winnett; sister Karen Pherigo (husband Allen) of Chandlerville; brother Tommy Fair of Douglas Terrace DD Homes in Jacksonville; numerous nieces and nephews; and his loyal dog, Sugar. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Nancy Case, and brother Kenny Fair.

Bob attended schools in Beardstown and Virginia and later earned his GED. Known for his strong work ethic, he held multiple jobs throughout his life. He began at Virginia Packing Company and Cass Meats before becoming a part-time police officer for the City of Virginia, later serving full-time. He then joined the Cass County Sheriff’s Department as Chief Deputy under David Osmer and was elected to two terms as Sheriff. He took great pride in protecting the citizens of Cass County and served with integrity and dedication. Even after leaving office, he remained proud of the badge he had carried.

In his personal time, Bob enjoyed riding his Goldwing motorcycle with Dee and their dog Sugar in the sidecar. He cherished fishing with his grandson Jacob and took pleasure in keeping his yard neat and tending to his outdoor flowers. He had a deep appreciation for bald eagles and proudly displayed a collection of eagle figurines. Above all, he valued time spent with his family. He grew up attending the Baptist Church in Beardstown and later worshipped at Virginia United Methodist Church. He was also a longtime member of the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association.
