Faribault, MN

Robert Jennings Volness, age 97, of Faribault, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Born on May 28, 1928, in Perley, Minnesota, Robert married Carol Edora Volness on September 11, 1949. The couple shared more than 76 years of marriage built on family, hard work, and service to others. Carol survives him.

Robert and Carol were blessed with three daughters: Cheryl (Dean) Ramsey, Gloria (Rob) Lee, and Lynn Volness. He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather to Andy (Amy) Lee, parents of Olivia and Addison; Eric (Thomas) Lee; Robert (Amber) Ramsey, parents of Gavin, Reagan, Kinnick, Micah, and Leighton; and Rebecca (MacKenzie) Ramsey, parents of Kamdyn and Kinzley.

A 1952 graduate of the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy, Robert devoted more than 50 years to his profession as a registered pharmacist. He managed a large retail pharmacy before purchasing and operating Volness Drug in Lake Crystal, Minnesota, for approximately 20 years. Known for his commitment to patient care, ethical practice, and community service, he later worked as a relief pharmacist and nursing home consultant, focusing on safe medication use and patient well-being. He often said he would choose pharmacy all over again if given the chance.

Robert enlisted in the United States Army on August 21, 1946, and was honorably discharged on January 7, 1948. He remained deeply proud of his military service and was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

He was remembered for his integrity, strong work ethic, sharp wit, and genuine concern for others. Above all, Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who took great pride in his family. In keeping with his wishes, he will be remembered privately by those who loved him.
