Faribault, MN

Robert Jennings Volness, age 97, of Faribault, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Robert was born on May 28, 1928, in Perley, Minnesota. On September 11, 1949, he married the love of his life, Carol Edora Volness. Together they shared more than 76 years of marriage and built a life centered on family, hard work, and service to others. Carol survives him.

Robert and Carol were blessed with three daughters: Cheryl (Dean) Ramsey, Gloria (Rob) Lee, and Lynn Volness.

He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. His grandchildren include Andy (Amy) Lee, parents to Olivia and Addison; Eric (Thomas) Lee; Robert (Amber) Ramsey, parents to Gavin, Reagan, Kinnick, Micah, and Leighton; and Rebecca (MacKenzie) Ramsey, parents to Kamdyn and Kinzley.

Robert graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy in 1952 and devoted more than 50 years to the profession as a registered pharmacist. Early in his career, he managed a large retail pharmacy before purchasing and owning Volness Drug in Lake Crystal, Minnesota, which he operated for approximately 20 years. During his ownership, he was deeply committed to patient care, ethical practice, and community service. After selling the pharmacy, he continued working as a relief pharmacist and later as a nursing home consultant, focusing on safe medication use and patient well-being. Robert often said that if he could live his life again, he would choose the same profession without hesitation.

Robert enlisted in the United States Army on August 21, 1946, and was honorably discharged on January 7, 1948. He served during the Korean War and remained deeply proud of his military service throughout his life. He was a longtime and proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion.

Robert was known for his integrity, strong work ethic, sharp wit, and genuine concern for others. He loved helping people, sharing stories from his career, and staying engaged with those around him. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who took great pride in his family.

In keeping with Robert’s wishes, no public services will be held. The family is grateful that everyone had the opportunity to share their goodbyes and will remember him privately.
