Robert Riesterer ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Valley Funeral Home - Appleton on Mar. 6, 2026.Robert "Bob" J. Riesterer III, age 74, passed away at his home in Menasha on Thursday, March 5, 2026 after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was born on August 17, 1951 in Keshena to the late Robert and Eleanore (Otradovic) Riesterer Jr.Bob's life was defined by service, dedication, and quiet strength built on protecting and caring for others. He was drafted into the United States Army during the time of the Vietnam War, where he served honorably as a military police officer while stationed in Italy. His commitment to service did not end when his active duty concluded. He continued in the Army Reserves, dedicating a remarkable total of 36 years to his country. During his time at Fort McCoy, he received heroic recognition and award for saving a fellow service member from drowning, a moment that reflected the courage and selflessness that defined his life.Following Bob's military service, he continued his calling to protect and serve his community. He spent 20 years as a police officer with the Kimberly Police Department later transitioning with the department to the Fox Valley Metro Police Department. Whether in uniform or out in the community, he carried himself with integrity, fairness, and a genuine concern for others.Never one to stay idle, Bob continued serving the next generation by driving school bus for Lamers Bus Lines and for students at St. Mary Catholic Schools for about 14 years. Many children were greeted each day by his steady presence and familiar smile.Outside of his professional life, he embraced the joys of community and tradition. A loyal fan and longtime season ticket holder of the Green Bay Packers, he was known among friends and fellow fans as a master tailgater who helped turn game days into memorable gatherings filled with laughter, food, and camaraderie.Bob was also proud to be involved with the Scarlet Guard American Legion Color Guard and Wrightstown American Legion Post 436, further demonstrating his commitment to community, fellowship, and service. To those who knew him best, Bob was dependable, generous with his time, and always willing to lend a hand. His life stands as a reminder that true heroism is often found in everyday acts of service – protecting neighbors, guiding children safely to school, supporting friends, and showing up when it matters most.Bob will be deeply missed by his wife, Kelly Riesterer; son, Robert "Robbie" Riesterer IV; siblings: Mike "Chiefy" (Mary), Lynn, Mick (Sandy), Sue; father-in-law, Dale Laurin Sr.; brother-in-law, Dale Jr. "Bunky"(Sharon) Laurin; sister-in-law, Kerry Laurin; and many nieces and nephews.
