Robert J McCarthy

Robert J. McCarthy, 72, of Enfield, passed away on March 13, 2026, at Evergreen Healthcare. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, on February 20, 1954, he was the son of the late David and Grace (Cullen) McCarthy. He grew up in Longmeadow, where he attended local schools, and lived there for much of his adult life before moving to Enfield following his retirement seven years ago.

Robert dedicated 42 years of his working life to Amtrak as a lineman. Colleagues respected him for his strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to his craft. He took deep satisfaction in time spent with family and friends, and he was an avid card player who especially enjoyed lively games of cribbage and sharing laughter with those closest to him.

He is survived by his son, Todd McCarthy and his wife Patricia of Somers; his brother, Joseph McCarthy and his wife Helen; his sister, Mary Jean; and his beloved grandchildren, William and Teagan McCarthy. He is also survived by his former spouse, Deborah Hotchkiss. Robert was predeceased by his parents and his brother, David McCarthy. He will be remembered as a hardworking professional and a devoted family man.
