Robert J. Fitzgerald

Robert J. Fitzgerald, known affectionately as Bob, of Shamong, New Jersey, passed away on March 12, 2026, at the age of 96, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Hackensack, New Jersey, on October 12, 1929, to the late Robert and Florence (Douglas) Fitzgerald, Bob was raised in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. He graduated from Lycoming College and served honorably in the U.S. Army in Japan during the Korean War. More than 60 years ago, he and his family made their home in New Jersey. Throughout his career, he worked as a systems specialist, consultant, and manager in the information processing, operations, and finance fields. In retirement, he dedicated ten years to volunteering as an income tax advisor and was an active member of the Romeo organization, regularly attending their monthly luncheons.

Bob was an enthusiastic sports fan who enjoyed jogging, later transitioning to walking, and found great satisfaction in woodworking and home improvement projects. An avid reader and history buff, he shared with his wife the ownership and operation of Fitzgerald’s Apartments in Ocean City, New Jersey, for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Mary Lou; their four children, John Fitzgerald of Moorestown, New Jersey, Nancy McCabe (Michael) of Mantua, New Jersey, Lynn Fitzgerald (Matthew Potter) of Ardmore, Pennsylvania, and Gary Fitzgerald (Liza Esser) of Cheverly, Maryland; seven grandchildren, Christine Cornish (Sean), Jennifer McCabe, Sarah McCabe, Grace Potter, Christopher Potter, Molly Fitzgerald, and Clara Fitzgerald; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his sister, Jeanne Kimmich of Marietta, Ohio.
