Robert Irving Short, Jr. passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at the age of 79, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 25, 1946, he served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1968. His years of military service shaped a life marked by quiet strength, gratitude, and deep devotion to family and the outdoors.
Robert cherished time spent in nature, particularly fishing the rivers of Montana and sailing on the lakes of Texas. He also found great joy in horseback riding and driving horse-drawn wagons, a passion he lovingly shared with his grandchildren and great-nieces, teaching them the care and respect these animals deserve.

He is survived by his son, David Charles Short, and daughter-in-law, Tina Marie Short (Johnson); grandchildren Amanda Marie Cagle (Short) and David Cody Eugene Short; grandson-in-law Dustin Lewis Cagle; and great-grandchildren Gracie May Short, Brayton Lewis Cagle, Gunner Jay Cagle, Hunter Clive Cagle, and Liam Nathaniel Sharp. He is also survived by his sister, Bonita “Bonnie” Hilton, nieces Heather, Holly, and Beth Hilton, and many great-nieces and a great-nephew.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Short; his father, Robert Irving Short Sr.; and his son, Carl Irving Short. He leaves behind a legacy of humble devotion, steadfast love for his family, and a profound appreciation for the natural world.
