Robert Glen “Bob” Daughters, 87, of Hamill, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, at the Winner Regional Healthcare Facility in Winner, South Dakota, with his sons by his side.
Born on August 11, 1938, in Waterloo, New York, to Glen and Margaret (Litzenberger) Daughters, Bob moved with his family to South Dakota in February 1943. They settled in Hamill, where they took over the Daughters family farmland. From that time forward, farming defined Bob’s life. He cared deeply for the land and devoted himself to working it for decades.
On August 19, 1962, Bob married Shirley Marlene Habeger in Witten, South Dakota. Together they built their life on the farm near Hamill and raised their two sons, Wade and Bruce. Bob and Shirley shared a love of farming, hunting, fishing, and the simple rhythms of rural living. They created many cherished memories camping with their boys at Fort Thompson. Bob felt most at home outdoors, whether tending crops, hunting, or fishing.
Bob remained active in his community, participating in Bull Creek Township and belonging to the Arrow, Rod and Gun Club and the local historical club. Even after he and Shirley moved to Winner in 2018, he continued to enjoy working in his raised garden, growing tomatoes and vegetables with quiet satisfaction.
He is survived by his sons, Wade (Linda) Daughters and Bruce (Amanda) Daughters; his sister, Peggy (Daughters) Sale; his grandchildren, Seth (Danielle) Daughters, Dalton (Taylor) Daughters, Jordan (Amber) Daughters, Ashley (Matt) Weisser, and Haley Wood; and his eleven great-grandchildren, Braylee, Jones, Evy, Dutton, Carson, Lincoln, Hazel, Heston, Piper, Aspen, and Summit. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Shirley.
Bob will be remembered for his steadfast love of family, his lifelong dedication to the land, and the many quiet, joyful days spent outdoors doing what he loved most with those he cherished. His legacy endures through the generations who follow him.
