Robert George Frey
August 2, 1958— March 9, 2026
Saint Croix Falls, WI
Robert George Frey, 67, of Saint Croix Falls, Wisconsin—forever a Tarheel—passed away on March 9, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on August 2, 1958, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Edwin and Joan Frey, Robert graduated from Ashbrook High School in 1976 before earning a degree in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His career in the polyurethane and construction industry began after graduation and spanned 44 years. It took him from Boulder, Colorado, where he worked for Kryptonics, to Minneapolis in 1988 to join Tandem Products. There, in January 1989, he met Shirley Miller. They married on May 11, 1991, in South Minneapolis. The couple later lived in the St. Louis area and Marquette, Michigan, where Robert co-founded the Argonics polyurethane business. In 1999, they settled in Saint Croix Falls, Wisconsin, where Robert worked for Durex Products.
Robert and Shirley raised two children, Alex and Alyson, filling their home with laughter, sledding, leaf piles, and devoted Carolina basketball viewing. He served faithfully as Treasurer of the First Presbyterian Church of Saint Croix Falls for more than 15 years and delighted family and friends for decades with his witty and heartfelt annual Christmas newsletters that captured family milestones and Tar Heel triumphs. After retiring in 2024, he cherished extra time with loved ones and embraced new adventures.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Joan Frey. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; son and daughter-in-law, Alex and Lydia; daughter, Alyson; and brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Julie.
