Helena, GA

Robert Eugene Smith, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, at Community Hospice in Vidalia, Georgia. Born on July 21, 1956, in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, to the late Homer Lee Smith and Odessa Connell Smith, Robert lived a life defined by his deep devotion to family, his love of the outdoors, and his exceptional talent as a craftsman.

From a young age, Robert embraced the natural world through hunting, fishing, and camping. These pursuits were matched by his lifelong passion for restoring antique cars and his skilled work in upholstery and furniture refinishing. After completing his education, he served in the United States Army before establishing a successful self-employed career in upholstery. His meticulous attention to detail and pride in his craft earned him lasting respect in the community.

Above all, Robert was a dedicated family man. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sylvia H. Smith of Jacksonville; their children, Suzzanne Smith Gills of Helena, Homer Smith of McRae, Lora Smith of Sparks, Kristen Smith of Douglas, and Tyson Smith of Jacksonville; and his beloved grandchildren, Brennen Weaver, Cameron Weaver, Noah Smith, Caryn Smith, Graham Smith, Mirabella Smith, Chloe Smith, Jai Smith, Lyrica Smith, and Teresa Smith. He is also survived by his sisters, Gail Ridings of McAlpin, Florida, Linda Jones (Charlie), and Nora Helman (John), all of Jacksonville, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandchild Izella Smith, his brother Leroy Smith, and his parents.

His spirit of love, craftsmanship, and adventure will remain a lasting inspiration to all who knew him.
