He passed away peacefully at Life's Journey Hospice facility in Avon, Indiana.Robert was born on June 19th, 1930, in Marion, Indiana, to the late Howard P. and Dorothy Elizabeth (Zabst) Taylor.A 1948 graduate of Marion High School, Robert was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1951 and served as a Corporal.Robert married Marilyn Dee Johnson on September 4th, 1953, shortly after returning from the Korean War. Residing most of their lives in Marion, until moving to Greenwood, Indiana, to be closer to family. Marilyn preceded in him death in 2006. They raised two sons Steven and Michael.Survivors include sons, Steven (Pam) of Jamestown, Indiana and Michael (Wendy) Taylor of Indianapolis, Indiana. Also, three grandchildren Katrina (James) Jenkins, Brett (Earl) Taylor, and Matt Taylor and one great grandchild, Jameson Jenkins. He loved spending time with his family and friends.Robert was retired from Ericsson, Incorporated, doing research and development for 39 years.He was a member of the Mt. Etna Masonic Lodge No. 333 and the Valley of Indianapolis Scottish Rite.Robert served during the Korean War and was awarded five medals for action, including the Purple Heart. Robert belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter #578. Robert was an Indy Honor Flight Veteran participant. His experience is recorded in the Library of Congress.The funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 5:00 PM on March 19, 2026, at G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis followed by visitation from 6:00 pm until 8:00pm. A burial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 20th at The Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 11201 South Marion Road 35, Marion, Indiana.The family invites those who knew Robert to share their memories, photographs, and condolences online, helping to honor his legacy and keep his memory alive.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
