Robert E. "Bob" Grunow

Robert E. “Bob” Grunow, 89, of Boyne City, passed away on March 9, 2026, just days before his 90th birthday. Born on March 15, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan, the youngest of four children of Elmer and Elizabeth Grunow, he moved with his family to Boyne City at the age of six and remained there for the rest of his life.

After graduating from Boyne City High School in 1954, Bob served in the U.S. Army’s Security Agency in Germany until 1956. In 1958 he married Marilyn J. Cornell, and together they raised three children. Following his military service, he worked at United Technologies for 34 years, retiring as assistant manager. Bob was an avid deer hunter who enjoyed all shooting sports, and he found great pleasure in gardening and growing flowers each summer.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Marilyn Janice Cornell Grunow; his son, Robert Ward Grunow; his daughter-in-law, Deborah Grunow; his parents, Elmer and Elizabeth Grunow; and his siblings, Al, Gloria, and Frank Grunow.

Bob is survived by his children, Dan Grunow and Susan (Jeff) Mikolowski; and his grandchildren, Nathan Mikolowski, Shandi Grunow, and Shane Grunow.
