Robert Brian Sweet

August 18, 1947 March 6, 2026

Beltsville, MD

Robert Brian Sweet of Beltsville, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer over the past year.

Bob was born in Malone, NY, on August 18, 1947, to Jack N. Sweet and Nellie E. Beyette. The oldest of three boys, he attended Franklin Academy High School before completing a two-year Electrical Engineering program at Canton. Bob was incredibly proud to become a New York State Police Cadet; however, an unfortunate accident during his third week at the academy resulted in a dislocated hip, which prevented him from continuing in that field.

Following his recovery, Bob explored several career paths before visiting his brother, Brent, in the DC Metro area in 1973. He accepted a position with the Marriott Corporation at Roy Rogers restaurants, where he remained for thirteen years. He later transitioned into fields he deeply enjoyed, including computers, networking, and IT support.

Bob met his future wife, Nancy Werbickas, in October 1976. They were married on June 10, 1978, and lived in Laurel, MD, before purchasing their first home in Beltsville, MD, in 1979. He is survived by his son, Brian R. Sweet (Lindsay Millard) of Ellicott City, MD, and grandson, Jack Sweet.

He was predeceased by his parents, Nellie and Jack Sweet; his brother, Terry J. Sweet; his sister-in-law, Sharon J. Sweet; and his father-in-law, Francis J. Werbickas. In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, he is survived by his brother, Brent A. Sweet; sister-in-law, Celeste H. Sweet; aunt, Evelyn Sweet; mother-in-law, Millicent Werbickas; sisters-in-law, Lisa W. Campbell (Hugh) and Tina M. Werbickas; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, College Park, MD 20740. A wake will precede the service at 10:00 AM.

As the service is being held during Lent, the family requests that no flowers be sent. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to Holy Redeemer Church or the Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
