Phenix, VA

Robert “Bobby” Morell Canada, 94, of Phenix, Virginia, passed away on March 11, 2026, at his home. He was the devoted husband of Doris Austin Canada for nearly 69 years.

Born on July 25, 1931, in Virginia, he was the son of the late Mamie Elliott Canada and John “Donald” Canada. Bobby spent 57 years working for Select Sires, where he artificially bred cows. He was known to his family as husband, daddy, granddaddy, and great-granddaddy, and he carried each title with deep pride.

He loved his wife, Doris, profoundly; she was the love of his life. Together they created a family grounded in loyalty and love. His family was his greatest source of joy, and he made certain they always felt cherished and knew how fortunate he considered himself to have them. Bobby found peace in farming and working the land, where his hard work and patience yielded lasting results. He was the person everyone turned to for help with a broken fence, a leaky pipe, or anything that needed repair, always finding a way to make it work.

Beyond his home and farm, Bobby served as the town’s water manager, taking pride in caring for his community. He helped build the Phenix Pool, creating a gathering place for families and children to enjoy. He lived a simple life centered on his family, his cows, and helping others. He will be remembered as a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and was always there when needed.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; four children, Donna Tucker and husband Ricky, Cheryl Hill and husband David, Jeff Canada and wife Linda, and Robbie Canada and wife Tammy; eight grandchildren, Jay Tucker and Brandy, Brandon Tucker and Carmen, Craig Tucker and Tasha, Derrick Canada and Kaysey, Alicia Hall and John, Daniel Hill and Kathryn, Dustin Hill and Ainsley, and Bryan Canada and Whitney; 21 great-grandchildren, Dominik Raney, Gabby Hall, Lincoln Raney, Kariann Tucker, Caiden Tucker, Kaylinn Tucker, Isaac Hall, Addison Canada, Raegan Tucker, Charlie Hill, Jace Canada, Chloe Tucker, Ethan Hall, Collyns Clowdis, Tyrus Tucker, Abigail Hill, Caroline Hill, Hunter Hill, Corbin Hill, Bristol Canada, and Emerson Canada; one brother, John D. Canada and wife Ann; one brother-in-law, Jesse Ellington; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Myrtle C. Ellington.
