Robert Alexander Wells

October 2, 1942 March 11, 2026

Lithonia, GA

Robert Alexander “Sandy” Wells, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, died on March 11, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on October 2, 1942, in Lithonia, Georgia, he was the son of Seth Alexander and Catherine Hazel Fowler Wells.

A gifted athlete, Sandy attended Georgia Southern University on a full baseball scholarship. He remained a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves and later developed a deep passion for golf, playing to a two handicap. Some of his happiest moments were spent on the golf course, patiently teaching his grandchildren the game he loved.

He served honorably in the United States Air Force before beginning a more than thirty-year career as an air traffic controller with the Federal Aviation Administration. Yet despite his athletic and professional accomplishments, Sandy will be remembered most for his vibrant, outgoing personality and for the deep love and devotion he showed to his family.

A longtime faithful member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Lithonia, he later played an active role on the Independent Council and led chapel services at The Retreat of Conyers, where he was well-respected by fellow residents.

Sandy and his wife, Bobbie, who survives him, shared sixty wonderful years of marriage and built a beautiful family. He leaves behind his beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Don Osborne, Shannon and Paul Griffeth; cherished grandchildren, Nicole Carlisle (Triston), David Osborne, Wesley Singleton (Nicole), Caleb Griffeth; great-grandchildren, Reese Singleton, Evelyn Singleton, and Alexander James “A.J.” Singleton; brother and sister-in-law, Brent and Annette Wells; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Keith Alexander Wells, and his sister Sherry Bradford.
