May 13, 1970— March 3, 2026
Louisville, KY
Robert Adler Metcalf, Jr., age 55, of Louisville, Kentucky, unexpectedly returned to his Heavenly Home on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
Born on May 13, 1970, in Louisville, Rob moved with his family to Tennessee and later to Texas, where he graduated from Arlington High School and took classes at the University of Texas. A gifted learner who excelled at math, he chose a hands-on path rather than traditional college. He became a journeyman carpenter under his father’s guidance before discovering his passion for engineering. He trained under Boeing Aircraft, advancing from design engineering to quality engineering as a Project Manager, with professional time spent in Texas, Virginia, and a year in Japan. A Kentucky boy at heart, he eventually returned to Louisville and spent the last nine years working alongside his brother Jeff as an independent insurance broker at MetFinancial Group.
Rob was a devoted protector of family and friends, known for his ever-present smile, quick wit, and hearty laugh. He loved telling jokes and sharing stories, often with a bit of irreverent humor. A true jack of all trades and outdoorsman, he found deep joy in athletic sports, especially fishing with his father, brothers, and extended family at the family camp on Rough River. He cherished hunting in Texas with his former father-in-law, Jerry Don, and took great pride in teaching and sharing these traditions. Above all, he was a man’s man who loved working with his hands, being outdoors, and caring for those around him.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Brandi Michelle Hawylrak, who was his true pride and joy; his parents, Robert and Beverly Metcalf; his brothers, James Metcalf (Jennifer) and Jeff Metcalf (Bridgette); his nephews, Patrick Rice (Makayla) and Turner Metcalf; his nieces, Macy Metcalf, Allye Metcalf, and Teagan Metcalf; a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins; and his beloved golden retriever, Jax, his constant companion. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Alvin and Marie Kleinhenz; his paternal grandparents, Adler Hoskinson and Alexandra Petrovna Metcalf; his godmother and aunt, Nancy Metcalf; his godfather and uncle, Michael Kleinhenz; his friend and cousin, Mark Robey; and his former father-in-law, Jerry Don.
Rob was truly a joy to have in our lives, and those who loved him will miss him terribly each and every day.
