Ricky Jay "Mohican" Burch

1964 — 2026

Evansville, IN

Ricky Jay Burch, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away at the age of 62 on March 14, 2026, in Evansville, Indiana, after courageously battling the aftermath of a stroke. Born on January 8, 1964, in Anchorage, Alaska, he graduated from Castle High School in 1983. Ricky was a man of great character, known for his loving and selfless nature.

For 40 years, Ricky worked as a skilled tradesman and contractor, taking pride in his craftsmanship in drywall, painting, and other construction services. His dedication extended to ABATE of Indiana, where he served as Region 8 Director, a motorcycle safety instructor, and the Evansville training site coordinator. Known affectionately as “Mohican” by his biker brothers and sisters, he shared his passion for motorcycling by teaching others to ride safely and responsibly.

Ricky’s greatest joy was his family. He was married to his beloved wife, Cathy Shaw Burch, for 34 years, and together they raised their children: daughters Amber (Stephan) Mullen, Brittany, Dorothy, and Hanna Burch, and son Nick (Lauren) Burch. He cherished every moment with his grandchildren—John, Grace, Parker, Luna Burch, Myrah Courtney, Lila, and Bo Mullen—who lovingly called him “Old Timer.”

Ricky is survived by his brother Mike (Dawn) and brothers-in-law Keith (Karen) and Mike Shaw, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Gaynell Burch, his mother-in-law Donna Shaw, and his brother Steve Burch. His selfless love and unwavering support for those around him left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
