Dadeville, AL

Ricky Huff, 68, of Dadeville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, in Birmingham, Alabama, surrounded by his three children. Born on October 22, 1957, in Alexander City, Alabama, Ricky lived a life defined by hard work, deep faith, and a genuine love for family and the outdoors.

He grew up working in the woods with his father in the logging business and later built his own successful logging operation. For more than 50 years he worked as a logger and logging truck driver, known for his reliability and strong work ethic. In his younger years he was an accomplished amateur boxer, earning the title of lightweight champion and drawing inspiration from Sugar Ray Leonard. Ricky also found joy in training his beloved rottweilers, especially his constant companion Nike, tending his garden, cooking, fishing with his best friend, and sharing his famous boiled peanuts made from a secret recipe he loved to challenge others to match. He had a passion for sports cars, once owning a Nova and a Camaro, and took pleasure in simple things like watching QVC and making cracklin’ cornbread.

Above all, Ricky cherished his role as a father and grandfather. He was known as Daddy to his children and Bam Bam to his grandchildren, and he treasured every moment spent with them. A man of strong faith, he was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and attended Calvary Baptist Church. He spoke openly about his love for Jesus and left his children with the lasting words, “Stay in Boat,” urging them to always keep God first in their lives.

Ricky is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Huff (Trent) Calhoun; sons, Joshua Chase (Haley) Huff and Coby Matt (Ashley) Huff; grandchildren, Lila Calhoun, Garrett Huff, and Lawson Huff; sisters, Sherry Bartlett, Duchi (James) Jones, and Robin (Tim) Ashworth; brothers, Reid (Christy) McKelvey and Rush (Lisa) McKelvey; step-mom, Gayle Huff; significant other, Liz Davis; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Cleveland Huff; mother, Dorothy Mae Pritchard McKelvey; step-father, Joe McKelvey; and brother, Gene Huff.
