Rick L. Spencer

April 12, 1956 March 14, 2026

Lincoln, NE

Richard “Rick” Lee Spencer, age 69, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on March 14, 2026, in Lincoln, surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Alliance to Richard and Eileen Spencer, Rick carried the values of hard work, devotion to family, and a sharp sense of humor throughout his life. He dedicated 44 years to BNSF Railway, building a respected career and many lasting friendships. After retiring, he and his beloved wife, Linda, moved to Lincoln to begin their next chapter together. Rick was known for his quick wit, playful teasing, and ability to keep those around him laughing with a well-timed one-liner or bit of harmless mischief.

A devoted member of Lincoln Berean Church, Rick faithfully served as an usher alongside Linda and sang in the choir. His faith and service to others remained central to his life. He found his greatest joy surrounded by family and friends. A lifelong and passionate Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, Rick rarely missed a chance to cheer on his team, treating football Saturdays with the seriousness they deserved—unless, of course, there was a good joke to be made about the score.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Linda Hoffman Spencer; his children, Steven (Celeste) Hoffman, Amanda Spencer, Desiree Hoffman-Hartsell, Anna Spencer, and Kyle (Veronica) Riggs; and his 15 grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Eileen Spencer, his sisters, Joyce (Larry) Linder and LaDonna (Terry) Grubbs, and by his nieces and nephews, Heather (Chris) Garrett, Michelle (Grant) Aden, Kirk (Heidi) Carpenter, Brandon Grubbs, Matt (Trisha) Linder, and Cody Linder. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard, and his sister-in-law, Lisa Hoffman.

Rick’s life was defined by his dedication to family and faith. He leaves behind countless memories and a legacy of laughter that his family will cherish even as they miss his jokes and the warmth of his presence.
