Richard William "Bud" Barnes

1942 — 2026

Rocky Mount, NC

Richard "Bud" William Barnes, age 83, of Rocky Mount, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Born in Northampton County, North Carolina on August 19, 1942, he was the son of the late Gilbert Lee Barnes and Mattie Lewter Bridgers Barnes Eure. He was preceded in death by his brother, Leo Wingate Barnes.

Bud found deep satisfaction in life’s simple pleasures and the friendships he cultivated over the years. An avid golfer, he and his wife Brenda were longtime members of Birchwood Country Club in Nashville and Scotfield Country Club in Enfield. He also enjoyed fishing when the opportunity arose. He cherished his daily routines, particularly the time spent with his coffee buddies, meeting each morning at 7 a.m. at Hardee’s and often gathering in the afternoons at Bojangles for conversation and camaraderie. These friendships brought him great joy.

A longtime member of Parkwood Baptist Church, Bud was known for his warm sense of humor and his playful teasing of Brenda. He was a dedicated family man who valued hard work and lasting relationships. He served his country in the United States Army, worked for over 20 years as a traveling salesman with Davis & Company, and spent more than 25 years at Parks Depot before retiring.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Brenda Wilson Barnes, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
