Richard Wayne Mizell, Jr., a cherished husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, and uncle, passed away on March 13, 2026, at the age of 57. Born on June 9, 1968, in Murray, Kentucky, Richard was a devoted family man who held deep affection for his loved ones, friends, and work colleagues.
A hard worker throughout his life, he cherished memories from his youth in the Boy Scouts of America, where he enjoyed camping trips. He played football in high school in Louisiana and later at Pelham High School, graduating in 1986. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1991 and a law degree from Cumberland School of Law in 1995, becoming a member of the Alabama Bar Association. Richard found joy in cooking, grilling, music, and his favorite pastime of fixing or building things. Known for always having the right tool and willingly helping others with any project, he also loved science fiction shows, historical documentaries, and watching his sons and grandson play sports, including soccer, Alabama football, and Kentucky Wildcat basketball. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family, especially the vacations they shared and the life he built with his wife of 32 years, Amy.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James T. Jones and Alberta, Richard Mizell and Esther, his brother-in-law Randy Hooten, and his in-laws Hiram Hooten and Linda.
Richard is survived by his wife Amy Mizell; his children Andrew Mizell (Samantha), Noah Mizell, and Eric Mizell; and his adored grandsons Thomas and Lucas. He also leaves behind his parents, Wayne and Sherry Mizell; his brother James Mizell (Sally); his sisters Charisse Junk (Mark) and Christine Brashier (Billy); his bonus brothers Nick Hooten (Nikki), Nathan Hooten (Darbe), and Mark Hooten (Christy); and many other relatives, including nephews and nieces. He will be remembered for his strength, his remarkable ability to know and do almost anything, his warm laugh, his kindness, and his profound love for his family and friends.
