Richard Toth ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home on Mar. 11, 2026.Richard Wayne Toth, 75, a native of Tolland and resident of Coventry passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026 with his loving family by his side. He was born on January 2, 1951 in Hartford to the late Joseph and Mabel (Seifert) Toth. After graduating from Rockville High School Richard lived on his parent's farm on Grant Hill in Tolland. He later bought property in Coventry, raising a family and forming many cherished memories with the late Joanne Toth, his wife of 37 years. He was self-employed for many years repairing small engines, clearing land, plowing snow, selling rewood and haying. He later retired from Manchester Central Connecticut Co-op, where he worked as the lead diesel truck eet mechanic.Richard was a man of few words; he carried a quiet kindness that was reflected in his generosity. His unique sense of humor – when understood- was hysterical.Richard had a gift for xing and restoring machinery. He had a remarkable ability to see potential where others saw junk; rusted tractors that most would have given up on were transformed in his hands into beautiful working machines. Though he never sought recognition he was an engineer in his own right – creating clever solutions and brilliant inventions. For example, one time, he built a clutch from scratch for his Belarus tractor after learning no parts were available- a true testament to his ingenuity.Richard took pride in working the land, maintaining it like a beautiful park. He had a passion for gardening and always shared his abundant harvests with neighbors, friends, and to those in need. He particularly loved making homegrown meals with summer squash, corn, beets, and tomatoes.Richard provided his daughters with a childhood of adventure that included a sledding hill, a pond, and lessons in independence and resourcefulness, which was his desire and legacy. Richard generously shared his mechanical knowledge with anyone seeking advice and always offered a helping hand. He was meticulous at keeping everything in order and a true jack-of-all-trades. He found genuine contentment working with his hands, solving mechanical problems and owning land.In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by: his brothers – Joseph Toth, Jr. and Gregory Toth; his sister Veronica Zdanis; and his sister-in-law Marilyn Toth.Richard is survived by: his daughters with the late Joanne Toth – Elizabeth Toth, Lauren Toth, Megan Toth, and Katherine Parizek and her husband Luke; his brother Edward Toth; his sister-in-law Rosemary Toth; and many nieces and nephews.Friends and family are invited to Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road, Vernon, CT for calling hours on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM, with his funeral service to follow the next day on March 19, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 20 Meadowlark Rd, Vernon, CT 06066.
