North Scituate, RI
Richard R. Blain, 77, of Chopmist Hill Road in North Scituate, passed away with his loving family by his side on March 9, 2026, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was the beloved husband of more than 40 years to Rose M. (Lillie) Blain.
Born in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the late Philip D. and Doris (Joaquim) Blain, Richard grew up in Cumberland. He attended St. Patrick’s School and Cumberland High School before joining the U.S. Navy, where he served aboard the USS Intrepid during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1971. After his service, he earned a degree in Business Administration from Johnson & Wales University and an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement. He worked for 25 years as a Correctional Officer with the Rhode Island Department of Corrections in Cranston, retiring in 2015. Highly respected in his field, Richard took great pride in his career. He was a skilled Jack-of-all-trades who was always busy with projects around the home and yard he cared for so deeply. Known as a walking encyclopedia, he loved music, was an avid car enthusiast who cherished his red Ford Taurus SHO, and rarely missed his favorite television shows.
Richard and Rose shared eight children, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was affectionately called Uncle Meanie by his many nieces and nephews, a name that reflected his strict but caring nature. He enjoyed a close circle of friends and neighbors with whom he shared countless dinners, celebrations, and good times. He traveled the world with Rose and dear friends and remained a devout and faithful Catholic, most recently serving at St. Joseph’s Parish in North Scituate.
He is survived by his wife Rose, his children Kaitlyn M. Hennemann of Coventry, Tonya J. Lillie of Pawtucket, Shane A. Lillie (Stacie) of Lincoln, Brian M. Lillie (Linda) of West Warwick, Fierna R. Lillie of Pawtucket, Jacob R. Manzano of North Scituate, Edward Manzano (Taylor) of West Warwick, and Noah A. Manzano of North Scituate; his brothers Ronald Blain (Diane) of Cumberland, Robert Blain of North Attleborough, Massachusetts, and Raymond Blain (Bonnie) of North Brookfield, Massachusetts; his sisters Jeannine (Blain) Haines (Lawrence) of North Attleborough and Judith (Blain) Brunelle (Alan) of Attleboro; five grandchildren, Brandon, Marley, Peyton, Taylor, and Gabriella; and three great-grandchildren, Theo, Levi, and Elson. He was the brother of the late Roger Blain. Above all, Richard loved Rose with his whole heart. He called her his rock and his world. They met on a blind date, married on a whim, and built a rich life together filled with devotion and joy.
