Richard N. Boatner, 72, of East Edgewood Avenue in New Castle, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at his residence. Born in Sharon, Pennsylvania, on April 16, 1953, he was the son of the late Harry and Juanita (Ponder) Boatner, Sr. A 1971 graduate of Farrell High School, Richard attended Florida A&M University before serving his country as a United States Army Sergeant with the 2nd Battalion, 41st Field Artillery Regiment during Desert Storm. He later retired as a counselor from YDC.
Richard was a man of quiet intellect and steady presence who found joy in playing chess and shooting pool. A devoted sports fan, he held a special passion for basketball and remained a lifelong, ardent supporter of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Those who knew him will remember his thoughtful nature and the care he extended to his family.
He is survived by his three children, Marlon Boatner of Youngstown, Ohio, Camilla Boatner of New Castle, and Quincy Boatner (Melissa) of New Castle; seven grandchildren; his sister, Beverly Johnson (Fred); his brother, Gary Boatner; his brother-in-law, Levon Barlow Sr.; his sister-in-law, Audrey Boatner; his former spouses, April Lee and Agneta Graham; his companion, Regina Griffin, and her five children, whom he loved and cared for as his own; his aunt, Carol Ponder; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends who will miss him deeply.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Harry Boatner, Jr., and his sister, Marcia Barlow.
