May 6, 1963— March 5, 2026
Chicago, IL
Richard Martin Gleghorn passed away on March 5, 2026. Born in Chicago, Illinois on May 6, 1963, he was the youngest child of Alfred H. Gleghorn, Jr. and Annette M. Ruddy Gleghorn. He was welcomed into eternity by his parents and his eldest sister, Holly Ann Gleghorn Linn.
A lifelong south side Chicagoan until his move to Florida, Richie was tall and jovial like his father, with a generous heart, a quick wit, and an endless supply of humorous stories. A devoted fan of the White Sox, Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks, he cherished memories of attending games at the ballpark through his grandfather Alfred H. Gleghorn, Sr. His adventurous spirit led him on Caribbean cruises, Daytona Bike Week excursions, and peaceful kayak outings on Crystal River with his longtime partner, Sandy Lopes, and their close circle of friends. He had a special tenderness for animals and shared his home with many beloved pets, including Cody, Jimmie, and the original Chicago Bear, a white Labrador.
Richie’s warm, outgoing nature meant he never met a stranger. His mop of red hair, crooked mischievous grin, and Irish sparkle in his eye made him unforgettable. Those who knew him best understood that his teasing and playful nicknames were signs of affection. He was a constant source of laughter and entertainment, the life of every gathering.
He is survived by his brothers, Robert H. Gleghorn and his wife Cherryl of Tarpon Springs, Florida, and Ryan Gleghorn and his wife Katelynn Giacalone of Port Richey, Florida; his sister Robin Walker and her husband Rick of Golden, Illinois; nieces Ashley Linn Kundid and her husband Mike, Kelsey Linn Duncan and her husband Brad, and Emily Walker; nephews Colton Walker and his wife Jessica Vick, and Shannen Gleghorn and his wife Lynzy; and great-nephew Oliver Gleghorn. He was lovingly supported in his final weeks by his older brother Robert, who remained at his side. Richie will be deeply missed by his family, cousins, and all the friends who shared in his laughter and love.
