Richard Lee Dunagan

1953 — 2026

Edmond, OK

Richard Lee Dunagan, 72, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away on March 12, 2026. Born on November 15, 1953, in Guthrie, Oklahoma, to Abe and Nellie Dunagan, he was the youngest of eight children.

Richard was known for his quick wit and his ability to deliver unforgettable one-liners with a perfectly straight face, bringing laughter to friends and family. He was generous, hardworking, caring, loving, and protective, with a stubborn streak that defined much of his character. An all-state basketball player at Guthrie High School, he continued his athletic career playing college basketball at Panhandle State.

He worked for more than 40 years in the oil field before retiring. In his later years, he found joy in watching OU football and college basketball, tending to his yard, taking on various projects, and most of all, spending time with his family. Above everything, he cherished his role as a father to his sons.

Richard is survived by his wife of 21 years, Cathy; his three children, Brent and wife Tracy of Guthrie, Rusty and wife Angie of Deer Creek, Oklahoma, and Jeramiah of the home; three step-children; his sisters Carol and Connie; his brother Jack; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many other beloved family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Evelyn, Marilyn, and Linda; his brother Paul; and his granddaughter Marissa.
