Passed March 4, 2026
Canton, MA
Richard Kramer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on March 4, 2026, at the age of 83.
Born on Morton Street in Mattapan, Richard grew up attending Boston Public Schools and graduated in 1960. He went on to study architectural drafting at Franklin Institute. He began his career at Zayre’s before joining the Morse Shoe Company in Canton, where he designed store layouts for the Fayva Shoe brand. After more than a decade in the corporate world, he followed his passion and trained as a watchmaker. He brought his family’s jewelry business from the Jewelers Building in Boston to downtown Canton, where for over 40 years he and his wife Leslie worked side by side. Richard repaired everything from wristwatches to grandfather clocks while Leslie managed the retail jewelry side, and together they became pillars of the Canton community.
Richard cherished time with family and friends. A devoted poker player who later became an avid canasta enthusiast, he also loved to travel, enjoying trips throughout Europe and Israel as well as annual visits to Aruba, his favorite home away from home, where he relaxed on the beaches with Leslie and close friends. Deeply committed to his faith, he served for several years as Treasurer of Temple Beth Abraham, now B’nai Tikvah.
He is survived by his children, Melissa Mayer and her husband Bill, and Ross Kramer and his wife Alla; his grandchildren, Sam Mayer and Sabrina Mayer; his sister, Rosalyn Miller; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Leslie Kramer, and his parents, Lillian and Louis Kramer.
