Richard Joseph Bracken, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on March 1, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on November 22, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, Richard lived a life rich with love, dedication, and community.

For 42 years, he dedicated himself to his career at General Motors, where his hard work and commitment were a testament to his character. Richard was not only a diligent worker but also a source of inspiration for many around him. He also served his country proudly in the US Army.

Richard was preceded in death by his loving parents, Franklin and Eileen Bracken.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Sandra Bracken, whose companionship brought joy and fulfillment to his later years. Richard was a proud father to Cheryl Sage and her partner Mark, as well as to Richard Bracken, Jr. He cherished his role as a loving Papa to his grandchildren, Megan and Roman, who brought light into his life.

Richard was also a caring brother to Andrew and Patricia Bracken, and the late Frank and Christine Bracken, William and Marianne Bracken, George Bracken, Brian and the late Nancy Bracken, the late Mary Lou and the late Elmer Heupel, the late Carol and Kenneth Lesney, Judy and Jerry Quinn, the late Diane and the late Paul Kiffner, and Loraine and David Craun.

He held the memories of his family close to his heart, celebrating the bonds they shared throughout his life. Richard enjoyed boating, fishing, and golfing; activities that allowed him to connect with nature and unwind with loved ones.

He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, shared stories, and the warmth of his spirit.

In memory of Richard Joseph Bracken, a service will take place at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida, on April 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM.

A celebration of life will be planned in Michigan in the near future.

Richard's presence will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
