Richard J. Jaracz

July 6, 1945 March 12, 2026

Amsterdam, NY

Richard J. Jaracz, 80, of the Town of Florida, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer.

A lifelong area resident, Rich was born on July 6, 1945, a son of the late Joseph and Irene Czelusniak Jaracz. He graduated from St. Mary’s Institute and began his career at General Electric before joining the New York State Tax & Finance Department, where he remained until his retirement. An avid New York Mets fan, he found deep satisfaction in life’s simple pleasures. He cherished memories of growing up on the family farm, working on DIY projects, taking leisurely Sunday drives while listening to polka music, and proudly honoring his Polish heritage. Rich took great pride in maintaining his home on Fuller Road, decorating it brightly for the holidays each season and spending hours mowing his lawn with his beloved John Deere tractor.

In retirement, he found joy as a delivery driver for Damiano’s Flower Shop, where he delighted in striking up conversations and bringing a smile to others’ days. Above all, Rich was known for his kindness, warmth, and the quiet joy he discovered in everyday moments. He loved his family dearly and will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

He was married to the love of his life, Karen A. Baumane Jaracz, on August 1, 1970. They shared 54 years of marriage until her passing on September 21, 2024. He was also predeceased by his brother, George A. Jaracz. Survivors include his three children, Kelly Jaracz, Tracy (Dan) Santa Maria, and Jeff (Tanya) Jaracz; his beloved dog Buddy Cooper; his grand pups; and many cousins. The family is deeply grateful to Deb Jablonski, affectionately known as “Momma D,” for the care, help, and support she provided to Rich and his family in his final years.
