Richard Gene Thomas

Richard G. Thomas, 85, of Franklin, passed away on February 28, 2026. Born on August 17, 1940, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Thomas R. and Margaret (Smith) Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; his son, Scott, and his wife; his stepson, Andrew Rule, and his wife; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A 1958 graduate of Broad Ripple High School, Richard served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1961. He worked at Hoover, Aero Drapery, RGT Drapery and Blinds, and most recently as a caterer with Jonathan Byrd Restaurant. He was a longtime member of the Optimist Club of Northside Indianapolis, where he held both club and state offices, and was also involved with the American Legion Post 0252. In retirement, he found great joy in N-scale model railroading.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who lived a life of service, hard work, and quiet passions.
