With heavy hearts, we remember Richard “Dick” Garnett, a man whose hands were rarely still and whose heart was always full. Born on May 24, 1951, in Longview, Washington, to Harry and Phyllis Garnett, Dick graduated from Mark Morris High School in 1969. After serving in the Navy, he managed a hotel in Depoe Bay, where he met Sandra, the “redheaded Dutch girl” who became his soulmate. They married in 1981 in the Netherlands and spent the next 45 years as inseparable partners, building successful businesses together, including Beaver Lodge and the Inn at Soap Lake in Eastern Washington. In 2017, Dick retired to his peaceful lake home in Kettle Falls, Washington.
Dick’s greatest joys in his later years were his four cherished grandchildren, Darin, Zander, Connor, and Kaleigh. He passed away on March 2, 2026, at home, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He is survived by his wife Sandra, his children Alex and Laura (Josh), and his siblings Chris (Greg), Ginny, Jeff (Chris), and Matt.
