Richard Dale Zanone
June 26, 1962— March 10, 2026
Little River, SC
Richard Dale Zanone’s life journey came full circle on March 10, 2026. Born on June 26, 1962, in Atwater, California, to Robert J. Zanone and Claudia Rae (Carrick) Zanone, he moved with his family to Utah at the age of two after his father retired from the Air Force. Dale cherished his childhood in the mountains of Utah, where he enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing, and skiing with his family. An athletic young man, he played football and baseball and later found joy in golfing, bowling, and tennis. He had a deep passion for hunting and took pride in teaching others the skill, pursuing it across the many places he lived. He also loved singing and playing his guitar.
Dale graduated from Clearfield High School in 1980. He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard, retiring after many adventurous years stationed in Japan, New York City, Washington state, Oregon, California, and Michigan. In his role as a rescuer, paramedic, firefighter, and mechanic aboard various vessels, he experienced thrilling and often perilous missions that he fondly recalled throughout his life. After retirement, he lived in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Connecticut, and finally settled in Little River, South Carolina, where he had resided for the past thirteen years.
Known for his kindness, generosity, and warm, happy personality, Dale greeted life with a ready smile and infectious laugh. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert, his sister Kathy, and his brother Dwayne. He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen; his daughter, Courtney; and his grandsons, Gio and Leo. He also leaves behind his mother, Claudia Rae; brothers David (Kris) and Danny; sister Julie; his loyal dog, Bella; and a large extended family and many friends from his childhood, travels, and years of service with his fellow Coasties.
Those who loved him will forever cherish the wonderful memories they shared with Dale. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date so that family and friends can gather to share stories and honor his memory.
