Richard Wayland ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Jones Mortuary - Colchester on Mar. 8, 2026.Richard "Dick" Wayland, age 92, of Quincy, Illinois, formerly of Colchester, passed away Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy. He was born July 11, 1933, in Colchester, to Jesse and Inza Reno Wayland. Dick was united in marriage September 5, 1953, in Macomb to Virginia Lee Parker. She preceded him in death October 26, 2006. He was also united in marriage to Dorothy Henness on May 2, 2016, in Macomb, she then preceded him on July 25, 2019.Surviving to mourn Dick's passing is 1 son: John (Laura) Wayland, Chapin, IL, 5 Grandchildren: William Wayland, Joshua Wayland, Jacob Wayland, Jonah Wayland, and Amber Wayland, 9 Great Grandchildren: LJ, Ariel, Winston, Jet, Jackson, Memphis, Melody, Asher, Jeremiah, and one on the way. 1 brother: Jesse (Red) (Carole) Wayland, Monmouth, 3 sisters: Especia Mason, Quincy, Darlyne (Kay) (Charles) Ackers, Avon, and Lyn Newberry, Ft. Madison, IowaDick was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, 4 brothers: Jimmy Wayland, Doug Wayland, Joseph W. Wayland, Jack W. Wayland 5 sisters: Nedra Amerine, Alma Feathers, Lila Alton, Jacquline Groves, Toni Schwanke.Dick proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving 2 years during the Korean War. During his time of service he was injured twice and received 2 Purple Hearts. After returning back to this area Dick worked over 25 years at OMC Products in Galesburg, then he worked at AVCO manufacturing in Tennessee, which built parts for many military aircraft. After returning back to the area Dick worked for Jim Mason Construction and retired for delivering cars for Woodrum's in Macomb. He had also worked at the Colchester Brick and Tile in high school years. Dick loved to fish, hunt, being outdoors, riding 4 wheelers, traveling across the United States. He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed telling stories to whom ever would listen. Dick was a member of the Macomb V.F.W. and worked on the committee that started the Veterans Memorial in Colchester. Most of all Dick loved his family and every moment he spent with them.Funeral Service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester with Pastor Mike Eddy. Burial will follow the services at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester with Military rites by the Macomb V.F.W. and Macomb American Legion. Visitation with the family will be from 12 noon to 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the Jones Mortuary. Friends may view and sign the register book at the funeral home from 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Friday March 13, 2026. Memorial is to the Colchester Rescue Squad.
