Cahill of Taunton, formerly of Quincy and Malden, passed away March 7, 2026. "Dick" was born in Stoneham, MA on August 22,1933, but grew up in Malden, MA. He was the youngest of three brothers Joseph, Vincent & Paul, and one sister Denise, all predeceased.After graduating from Malden Catholic High School, Dick enlisted in the service. He spent the next four years in the Air Force, during which, he served time in Germany and England. He then returned home to Malden, was hired by the Telephone Company, and met his future wife, Carole McIntire of Quincy. Carole and Dick met on a blind date on New Year's Eve in 1957, and married on July 4, 1959. For the next 40 years they lived in the Wollaston section of Quincy, where they raised their five children.A man of deep faith, during the school year Dick enjoyed teaching C.C.D. classes at St. Ann's church in Wollaston.In the summer time he enjoyed relaxing weekends on Wollaston and Gunrock (Hull) beaches and loved the weeks-long, family vacations at Lakewood and Briarwood on the Cape.Dick was employed by the New England Telephone Company for 35 years.For ten of those 35 years he attended night school at Northeastern University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. He retired from the phone company in 1988 as a Regional Purchasing Manager.Carole and Dick moved to Taunton in 2001. In retirement Dick enjoyed line and ballroom dancing with Carole, attending church luncheons with the St. Ann's Seniors, playing and watching golf, playing sudoku, and most of all, spending time with his family.He will be remembered for his strength, integrity, and never-wavering, positive attitude.ALWAYS a welcoming smile on his face.Beloved husband for 66 years of Carole Cahill. Father to Joseph Cahill and his wife Marilyn of Falmouth, Susan McCullough and her husband Michael of Lakeville, Stephen Cahill and his wife Ann of Centerville, Lynne Coutts and her husband Alex of Taunton, and James Cahill and his wife Mary of Weymouth. Also the proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Beloved Uncle of many nieces & nephews.A mass will be held Saturday March 28, 2026 at 11 AM at St. Ann's Church in Raynham.In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in his name to the National Ataxia Foundation https://www.ataxia.org/To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
