Crystal Lake, IL
Richard Charles Carzoli, 90, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, in Barrington. Born on July 7, 1935, in Oak Park to Charles and Ruby (Stonehouse) Carzoli, he proudly served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1960. As a teenager, he met the love of his life, Barbara Parkinson, at a pool in Chicago in 1950. They became high school sweethearts and married on July 17, 1954, sharing a loving marriage that spanned nearly 75 years.
Richard and Barbara raised their eight children in Crystal Lake. In 1981, he became self-employed and continued working until the age of 90, retiring only the previous year. At 70, he earned his Private Pilot License in 2005. The couple spent fifteen years living in Arizona before returning to the Crystal Lake area in 2024.
A member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church since 1967, Richard was remembered as a gentle and kind man with a wonderful sense of humor. He loved pulling pranks, tinkering with anything that needed fixing, and collecting all sorts of items. A lifelong learner and proud patriot, he was also a devoted Chicago sports fan and die-hard Bears supporter.
Above all, Richard cherished his roles as husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His steady presence, quick wit, and warm heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his children, Mike (Darlene) Carzoli of Lake in the Hills, Mary Lou (Wayne) Kozar of Woodstock, Diane (Ken) Neumann of Woodstock, Dave (Amy) Carzoli of Woodstock, Dan (Debbie) Carzoli of Woodstock, Matt (Sarah) Carzoli of Crystal Lake, John (Tricia) Carzoli of Woodstock, and Liz (Matt) Rychlik of Crystal Lake; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
