Richard Carr Furr of Blacksburg, born on October 14, 1953, in Staunton, Virginia, passed away on February 28, 2026. The son of the late Charles E. and Julia S. Furr, he was preceded in death by his brother, C. Bradford Furr.

Rick graduated from Virginia Tech in 1980 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He possessed a deep fascination with electronics and found particular joy in disassembling and repairing computers and calculators. A dedicated and civic-minded individual, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a youth. As an adult, he served as his son’s Cub Scout Den Leader, Cub Master, and Scout Leader, and he coached his daughter’s soccer team. He was actively involved in the NRV Friends of the Roanoke Symphony and the Christiansburg-Blacksburg Rotary Club, where he held leadership positions in both organizations. In retirement, he volunteered at the Humane Society Thrift Store.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his daughter, Jessica; his son, James Furr; his sister, Lissa Dod (Rader); his niece, Anne-Charles Moreau (Miller); his great-nephew, Mason Moreau; and his nephew, Will Dod (Becca).
