Richard C. "Snuff" Arndorfer

March 26, 1944 March 11, 2026

Bancroft, IA

Richard “Snuff” Arndorfer, 81, of Bancroft, passed away on March 11, 2026, at Accura HealthCare of Bancroft. Born on March 26, 1944, he was the son of Henry Sr. and Helen (Widen) Arndorfer. He grew up on a farm east of St. Benedict, attended school in Corwith, and graduated from Bishop Garrigan High School in 1962. He then served in the United States Air Force, stationed in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

In 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Delores Berte, and together they began farming near Lu Verne before moving to a farm west of Bancroft, where they raised their six children. Snuff’s greatest joy was his family. He cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, filling their lives with laughter and lasting memories. In January 2006, he and Delores moved into town, where he served two terms on the Bancroft City Council and the North Kossuth Golf Club board. He loved golfing, fishing, and sharing mornings with his friends at Cargo. A devoted fan of the LA Dodgers, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Minnesota Vikings, he found special delight whenever the Vikings defeated the Packers. He remained a faithful member of St. John Catholic Church throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Delores, and their six children: Kelly (Jeff) Deitering of Bancroft, Jennifer (Scott) Booth of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, Richard Jr. (Melissa) Arndorfer of Bancroft, Chad (Mickey) Arndorfer of Swea City, Kim (Horace) Tisdel of Kansas City, Missouri, and Kay (Casey) Harms of Bancroft. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as his brother-in-law Edmund (Mary Ann) Berte and sisters-in-law Janine, Nancy, and Judy Berte.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Henry Jr., Jerome, Robert (Marilyn), Delores (Charles) Nordstrom, Donna (Tony) Brown, Gloria (Howard) Wellendorf, and Shari (Dick) Lavrenz, along with many brothers- and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
