Richard Arthur “Dick” Callahan passed away on March 9, 2026, at the age of 95. Born in South Boston, he was the youngest child of John J. Callahan and Nora (O’Rourke) Callahan and the younger brother of John J. Callahan and Anne M. Callahan, all of whom predeceased him. Dick was married to Jean Marie (Evans) Callahan for seventy-one years until her passing on January 1, 2024.
He is survived by three of his four children and their spouses: Maureen Callahan VanderMay and her husband Monty K. VanderMay, John J.P. Callahan and his wife Emily Dawson Callahan, and Nora M. Armstrong and her husband Stuart Armstrong. He is also survived by his grandchildren Alexandra Armstrong, Caroline Armstrong, and Caitlin C. Callahan. His eldest daughter, Kathleen A. Callahan, predeceased him. Dick leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Dick attended Saint Brigid’s Parish School, Boston College High School, and Boston College, graduating in 1952. He served proudly as a U.S. Marine and went on to a distinguished career in federal law enforcement with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Administration. In later years he worked internationally in the private sector, focusing on the protection of intellectual property.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose life was marked by quiet strength, integrity, and a deep sense of duty.
