Richard Andrew "Andy" Schmitt, 67, of Poulan, GA, formerly of Cuthbert, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026, in Cuthbert. Memorial services will be conducted and announced as soon as available.Andy was born on April 3, 1958, in Brunswick, GA the son of the late Richard Henry Schmitt and the late Iris Sawyer Schmitt. He grew up in Nahunta, GA and attended Brantley County Schools. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours fishing and camping on the Satilla River. Following high school, he moved to Cuthbert, GA where he worked for Brunswick Pulp. In September 1982 he met his wife Paula, and they were married on March 26, 1983, in Albany, GA and moved to Worth County in November 1983. Andy worked in logging for many years and in 1991 he began his employment with the Water, Gas and Light Commission in Albany, GA. He was a Cathodic Protection Supervisor and retired in 2023 with 32 years of service. Andy loved hunting, fishing and working on his property in Cuthbert and was happiest when he was on his tractor plowing and planting deer plots. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kathryn West.Survivors include his wife, Paula Schmitt of Poulan, son, Scott (Kaitlin) Schmitt of Nahunta, stepdaughter, Sabrina (Ben) Baldwin of Wolverine Lake, MI, 2 sisters, Sylvia (Bob) McHugh of Milton, GA and Marian (Mitch) Smith of Bartow, GA and 5 grandchildren, Emily, Ashley, Grant, Ayden and Mackenzie.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Best Friends Humane Society at 787 Ephesus Church Rd.
