Colonel (Retired) Richard (Dick) A. Stephans, 90, of Boulder City, was born May 29, 1935, in Newark, NJ to Professor & Mrs. C.H. Stephans and passed away on March 2, 2026. Dick leaves behind his three daughters, Helen Henry, Debbie Hendricks and Julie Calloway along with 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren who all brought joy and laughter to his life. His beloved wife of 61years, Jo Smith Stephans, passed away in 2021.

Dick grew up in Nutley NJ and received degrees from Purdue and NM State in Chemical and Mechanical Engineering. He retired from the Army after 24 years as Colonel, Ranger, Paratrooper, and Vietnam Veteran honored with more than a dozen decorations including 2 Legion of Service and 5 Bronze Star Medals. After military retirement Dick became a government contractor working for the Air Force, DoD and the Department of Energy at various nuclear weapons design, test and production locations. He received system safety engineering specialized training at USC. He was an engineering consultant to Los Almos National Laboratory and retired in 2010 from Nevada Test Site. He was a Professional Engineer, a Certified Safety Professional, a Certified Emergency Manager, authored two textbooks on system safety engineering and a Fellow Member in the International System Safety Society. After 26 years of living in New Mexico, Jo & Dick moved to Boulder City in 2003. They also had a cabin in Duck Creek, UT where in each location, “Our happiest years were spent”.

Dick will be together with Jo at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City. The family will be having a private life remembrance celebration. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to his beloved Golden Knights Foundation or the Nevada Veterans Home where he volunteered faithfully for three years.
