Rex Earl Case

1950 — 2026

Sandy, UT

Rex Earl Case, age 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Sandy, Utah, on March 12, 2026. A man of quiet strength and profound kindness, Rex was known as a “gentle giant” whose life was defined by his devotion to his family, his faith, and the natural world he so dearly loved.

Born on July 1, 1950, at LDS Hospital to Frederick and Ila Case, Rex grew up with a deep appreciation for the earth. After earning his bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics from Utah State University in 1972, he enlisted in the Air National Guard. Following basic training in Biloxi, Mississippi, he returned to Utah and established his own landscape business. Rex possessed a remarkable knowledge of plants and could identify any tree or shrub by name. He spent his working years nurturing the beauty of the Utah landscape, while his love of nature also inspired a lifelong passion for travel and meeting new people.

A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Rex lived his faith with humility and steadfastness. He faced countless medical challenges throughout his life with patience and quiet strength, remaining a testament to his love of the Savior. Many experienced him as a humble answer to prayer through his community service and his steady, reassuring presence.

Above all, Rex was a family man. He married Janette Turner in the Salt Lake Temple on April 22, 1977. He cherished his wife, Jan, and their four children with all his heart. Known for his special bond with children and the elderly, he brought endless joy to his five grandchildren. His warmth was felt by all who knew him, whether through his favorite saying, “Remember the Alamo,” or his cheerful farewell, “See you later, Alligator.”

Rex is survived by his devoted wife, Jan; his children, Nathan Earl Case (Krysta), Travis Aaron Case (Letesha), Dustin Rex Case (Natalie), and Jessica Anne Case; and his five adoring grandchildren, Rigby, Connor, Aurora, Collin, and Ila Case. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Ila Case.
