Reverend George Thomas Johnson

1942 — 2026

Indianapolis, IN

Reverend George Thomas Johnson, a devoted servant of the Lord and a pillar of his community, entered into eternal rest on March 8, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on March 22, 1942, in Hiseville, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Vester and Geneva Johnson. He moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, at an early age and found his spiritual home at Eastern Star Missionary Baptist Church under the guidance of Reverend J.A. Johnson Sr. George felt a profound calling to the ministry, which he pursued with unwavering commitment, eventually serving as Associate Pastor at Greater Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church under Senior Pastor David L. Johnson Jr.

He was known for his quiet acts of kindness, particularly his faithful assistance in transporting parishioners to and from church services. His life was defined by the countless lives he touched through his gentle faith and steady presence. Reverend Johnson is remembered as a man who fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.

He leaves behind his two daughters, Mia (Dexter) Jarrett and Cassandra (Johnson) Partee of Decatur, Illinois; three cherished grandchildren, Demar Johnson, Randy (Paige) Jarrett, and Lanedra Gray; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved nieces Cynthia (Tinny) Butler and Melissa (David) Blair, nephew William (Boonie) Caldwell, a host of grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and his dear “mini-me,” Donavan Golden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vester and Geneva Johnson; his sister, Dorine Caldwell; his grandchildren Tajee Johnson, Tia Patterson Jarrett, and Iyonna Johnson; and the mother of his daughters, Sandra Lane Johnson.
