Retta Ann Mackey

Retta Ann Mackey, age 75, of Corsicana, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 25, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born on April 25, 1950, in Corsicana, Texas, to Joe Nathan and Delores Defreeze. Retta was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be remembered for her kindness, bright spirit, strength, faith, and dedication to family.

She worked as a teacher for many years and found great joy in helping others, education, and expressing herself through fashion and cooking.

Retta is survived by her loving husband, Arthur Mackey, Sr.; her seven children: Catina Dunn of Atlanta, GA, Mikol Defreeze of Lincoln, NE, Anthony Defreeze of Helena, OK, Eric Dunn Defreeze of Norman, OK, Roshelle Fierro of Charlotte, NC, Tonya Mackey of Hobbs, NM, and Arthur Mackey, Jr. of Midland, TX; her siblings: Lashell Perry, Linda Defreeze Anderson, Harold Defreeze, Joe Wilbert Defreeze, and Joseph Defreeze; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Nathan and Delores Defreeze; and her brothers, William Earl Defreeze and Rodrick Defreeze.

A funeral service will be held on March 10, 2026, at Christ Holy Temple 2006 E White St, Hobbs, NM 88240 at 11am. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate her life.

Retta will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
