Rena Claire Ferris

Rena Claire Ferris, born Rena Claire Tyson on June 22, 1951, in Lyons, Indiana, passed away at home on March 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was 74.

The only child of Harmon and Hallie Tyson, Rena grew up in small-town Indiana and graduated with the L&M High School Class of 1969. Her loyalty to the L&M Braves remained strong throughout her life, and she rarely missed a basketball game, cheering with unmistakable enthusiasm. That same passion carried into her lifelong devotion to the Indiana Hoosiers, where she followed both basketball and football with unwavering fervor. She had the joy of seeing the Hoosiers win a national football title after an undefeated season shortly before her passing.

Rena married Danny Ferris, the love of her life, and together they shared 47 wonderful years building their home and family in Indianapolis. She is survived by her devoted husband Danny; her children, Julie Ferris and Bradley Ferris (Kristee Kelly); her beloved grandson, Damon Williams; and her feline companions, Kirby and Coal.

Rena had a special soft spot for cats, always welcoming strays that found their way to her porch in Cumberland with food and kindness. Small in stature but full of spirit and feistiness, she filled every room with her presence and left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and everyone whose lives she touched.
