Reginald Dennis Peters, 91, of Rockport, passed away on March 11, 2026. Born on October 16, 1934, in Hitchita, Oklahoma, Reg joined the United States Air Force at the age of 17 and served his country for more than a decade. His final posting took him to Marquette, where he met the love of his life, Kay J. Kent.
Reg and Kay spent more than twenty years working at Northern Michigan University, where he built a distinguished career as a sports trainer. He took particular pride in being selected to serve as a trainer for the 1983 Pan American Games in Venezuela and the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. In 1988, he was inducted into the Northern Michigan University Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions to athletics.
After retiring, Reg and Kay moved south to be closer to their son Greg and their grandsons. Reg was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kay Peters, and his son, Greg Lewis Peters. He is survived by his grandsons, Grey Wilder Peters and Magnus J. Peters, his daughter-in-law, Saundra Scarce, and his sister-in-law, Sharon Strong. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Jane LaPlant, known affectionately as Nurse Jane, along with Mike Holoholokulani and the dedicated nurses and caregivers at Rockport Nursing Home for their compassionate care.
